AWS Immersion Day London 2024

I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in AWS’s Immersion Day in London, where our team presented the Build-Your-Own GenAI Application project in front of a huge audience. It was both nerve-wracking and exciting to share our work with hundreds of people!

I found out about the AWS event through the Machine Learning Society at my university and decided to apply as I have attended multiple AWS events both offline and online. The selection process required submitting a resume, and only the chosen participants were invited to attend the event. Yet, there were hundreds of participants at the venue.

The Amazon London UK Headquarter

I had the chance to tour the Amazon office located in Shoreditch, London, and it was an impressive experience seeing such a fantastic office space!

Lecture

A big thank you to AWS for hosting such a fantastic event. Not only did we get to explore AWS’s amazing London office, but I also got to hear insightful talks on AWS fundamentals and AI/ML technologies. Looking forward to seeing how this technology evolves and how we can continue pushing the boundaries of AI!

Build-Your-Own GenAI Application

When we arrived at the event, AWS gave us a task to come up with an idea and build an GenAI application.

Initially, our team aimed to tackle a more serious topic, but the AWS tools weren’t giving us the results we expected. One of my teammates suggested changing themes, drawing inspiration from last year’s hackathon. After reviewing the previous projects, I noticed they all had a common element—storytelling games. I proposed we create something more provocative for the Amazonians, while still keeping it professional.

With the team onboard, we dived into the project, having a blast while working on it. Since I had taken the lead on pushing the new direction, my team nominated me to present! I kicked off the introduction and demo. You can tell that we had a lot of fun from the photos.

The response was overwhelming! People were so engaged that their reactions were caught on video recording, even though they didn’t have microphones! While I projected my voice, I didn’t know that I was supposed to put the microphone up close to my mouth, so in the video, I’m a little hard to hear. But it was such a fun experience overall! After the presentation, I received a number of LinkedIn connection requests from the audience!

My team was super supportive. They left comments on my LinkedIn, posted my picture on Instagram calling me the GOAT, and even invited me to other tech events. 🙌

Reflecting on the Experience

I still can’t believe how well the presentation went! The positive feedback, the energy from the audience, and the support from my teammates have left me feeling motivated to keep pushing myself. If I get another chance to present, I’ll definitely take it.
